🛣️ RAR Construction Sites Visit | 17th October | Algarve (EN125) 📅
We are pleased to announce a possible technical visit to the Algarve (EN125), where at least one of three contractors will be rehabilitating three sections of an old cracked road with a thin layer of SMA 10 S RAR. This new mix, which is now part of Infraestruturas de Portugal Special Specifications, has 100 times more fatigue life (as per ASTM and EN standard 4 point bending flexural fatigue testing) than regular dense mixes and contains about 12.5% BINDER CONTENT (60% bitumen + 40% RAR) which makes it highly resistant ro reflective cracking.
🔍 What to Expect
Three contractors will be rehabilitating cracked sections of the EN125 using the cutting-edge SMA 10 S RAR mix — now officially part of Infraestruturas de Portugal’s Special Specifications.
🧪 Technical Highlights:
- 100x greater fatigue life than conventional dense mixes (ASTM & EN – 4-point bending fatigue tests)
- 12.5% binder content (60% bitumen + 40% RAR)
- Exceptional resistance to reflective cracking
At least one contractor is expected to be paving on 17th October, obviously subjected to weather conditions.
Final confirmation will be announced during the Conference.
